stella vivienne // advancing + regressing
andrew and i are having so much fun with stella as she is starting that bittersweet crossover from baby to toddler. it seems like we are caught off guard or surprised at least a few times a day by what she can do or say. just last night i yelled to andrew, "get in here, she knows how to swaddle her babies...did you know this??" we adore the new things we discover she is able to do on her own, because most of them include a really high pitched voice. it melts us, it really does. but then, strangely, as some things are advancing for our sweet stella, others are regressing. maybe she is making room in her smart little brain for new tricks by letting the less important things to fall to the wayside? i am just throwing that out there. or maybe she just prefers to undo some learned behaviors because she can. after all, this munchkin knows what she wants like 110% of the time and there's no getting around that. below is a list that i am most certain will give us many giggles one day as we look back on of all the things that our almost 20 month old (eeeek!) has been advancing AND regressing on.
advancing // all on her own
-putting shoes on
-saying "choos" (shoes) when one falls off to let mama know
-putting things in the trash (if you ask her to)
-putting things in the washing machine (if you ask her to)
-giving hugs with her head (you have to be there)
-eating with a spoon / fork successfully
-saying "bye!" when getting her coat on
-giving pupa treats after he potties
-putting her wooden puzzled together
-figuring out how to squeeze water out of her tub toys at us
-sleeping in a big girl bed at night
-swaddling baby and saying "nigh nigh"
-screaming "melmo!!!!" (elmo) when seeing the red netflix screen
-saying "mama" or "dada" to the tune of bah bah black sheep
regressing // all on her own
-taking off pants, skirts, and bloomers (as in, never wearing them at home anymore)
-resisting diaper changes on her changing table
-screaming now at bath time, especially when it's time to get shampoo out of hair
-not eating tomatoes (her one time fav)
-flailing when getting buckled in her car seat
-wanting to cuddle like a baby (i like this one)
-freaking out when seeing a bottle, not a zippy cup, and then crying until she gets milk in one
for those of you with kiddos, do you notice than they have regressed in anyway? i'd love to hear some of your stories.

cute pics! x
ReplyDeleteMy son is 3 and a half years old and I noticed some regresses:
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't flush the toilet after he goes to pee... {at first he was so happy to do it}
He refuses to go put things, I ask him, in the garbage... {at first he was very happy to do it}
And the list can continue... I don't think them as regresses but as refuses... He knows that he has this right and he exerts it.
Brandon (almost three) does not like to wear pants anymore. And he chooses to go this route during the coldest time of the year. He also no longer sleeps through the night... but IS almost potty trained. (Crossing fingers on that one!) Aren't they funny little ones??
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog. Found you through Instagram. As a parent of two I can confirm regression comes with development. Both of mine always advance developmentally and retract in the sleeping department. My youngest is a month away from turning three and I recently told a friend I am hoping to sleep through the night again once she turns five. I hope. :)
ReplyDeleteHi, I only just found your blog, which I love btw. Beautiful pics, too! We totally had the regression thing with my 2 1/2 year old. She now refuses to go on the potty and has stopped telling us if she has a dirty nappy :( The swaddling thing is so cute, Lily does that too, although she likes to cover her babies faces! Sam (age 5) has always been an amazing eater and now suddenely, he does not like ham apparently! ;) x
ReplyDeleteOhhh girl! Both my girls went through the whole "stripping" stage, but trust me it gets better! She's challenging you and finding her limits! My oldest just started eating again, and what I mean by that is I don't need to force fred spinach filled smoothies daily just to get proper nutrients. It's a whole new world :)
