a recipe // toast

ok.  i lie. this isn't really a recipe, per se.  it is more of an idea.  friends, meet one of the most simple yet delightful treats: toast.

now if you are like me, breakfast is rare.  if i do get the energy to get up when my alarm goes off, which never, ever happens, then i end up grabbing a brown sugar pop tart or two.

however, there are sparse sprinkling of mornings when that dented avocado sitting on the bottom shelf of your fridge just begs to be smothered on a warm piece of crusty bed, and immediately sprinkled with salt and pepper before being devoured in slow motion, because it's that good.

and honestly, strawberry jam spread on toast, although delicious, is just too predictable these days.  so i am throwing this out there: in your kitchen, no matter fancy or plain, awaits many toast topping treasures.  isn't that wonderful?  no shopping required!

you really should listen to those initially crazy instincts to switch up the classic toast and butter.  push the envelope and get all hipster with roasted red peppers and goat cheese with freshly cracked black pepper...or all brooklynish with sourdough covered in sweet agave nectar and warm brie.

note: there are no rules.  no one will be watching.  just go get yourself some crusty bread and take a second or two to think on your feet and open some cupboard doors.  there you have it, a recipe for toast.

  2. Ethan just had avocado toast for lunch! Love it! Sometimes we do smashed up black beans and avocado on toast. Love Drea's toast posts, too. It's crazy how often toast is overlooked!
